Lock of Cillian Murphy’s hair on sale for a ridiculous amount

It comes “directly from the wigmaker”.

Ahead of a potentially massive Oscars night for Cillian Murphy, a lock of the Cork man’s hair has gone on the market for a ridiculous price.

The “substantial lock” of hair off the 47-year-old’s noggin is on sale for £6,000 (around €7,000), and comes straight from the set of Peaky Blinders.

And with Murphy hotly-tipped to beat out his fellow nominees and win the Best Actor award on March 10, the price could greatly increase for anyone looking to get a hand on his hair.

The listing for the actor’s “guaranteed authentic lock” appears on the Paul Fraser Collectibles website, saying: “The lock comes affixed to a card bearing his name, written in pen by the wigmaker.”

A memorabilia expert told The Irish Sun: “Cillian’s stock is rising and he is now a global star, especially after the Bafta and likely Oscar.

“So, although this might be a strange thing to collect, it is likely to go up in value.

“There is actually a pretty big market for famous people’s hair.”

If you’re not feeling up to splurging thousands on the Oppenheimer star’s lock of hair, you also have the option of buying a strand for £399 (€470).

Murphy has had nearly a clean sweep this awards season for his role in the Christopher Nolan epic, picking up the top prize at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes and the SAG Awards.

Murphy now looks to be out in front as favourite for the Oscar, with his SAG award win seen as a big indicator of who will pick up the big prize in March.

Paul Giamatti looks to be running closely behind the favourite for his memorable performance as professor Paul Hunham in The Holdovers.

Among the other nominees for the prize on the night are Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Bradley Cooper (Maestro) and Colman Domingo (Rustin).
