Here are the 8 must-watch movies that hit Irish cinemas this April

Rory Cashin

Some great horrors, an amazing Irish film, and probably the biggest movie ever made.

April has got it all.

As the summer blockbuster season continues to speed towards us at full-steam, we should get ready for the budgets to get bigger and bigger for the next few months.

This coming month legitimately has some of the biggest movies of the year to give your eyeballs a good going over, but there are enough smaller features to work out your heart and brain as well.

A Quiet Place

Irish Release Date: 5 April

Plot: Bizarre creatures are killing everyone on Earth that make any kind of sound, and John Krazinski and Emily Blunt try to silently survive with their family intact.

Go See It Because: It is one of the best horrors we’ve seen in a long, long time. We literally pulled a muscle in our neck, that is how tense it made us.

Blockers

Irish Release Date: 6 April

Plot: A group of parents – John Cena, Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz – discover that their daughters have made a sex pact to lose their virginity on Prom Night, and go out of their way to stop them.

Go See It Because: Just like Game Night last month, this is a surprisingly brilliant comedy, with way more going on in the heart and brain than the trailer would lead you to believe.

Love, Simon

Irish Release Date: 6 April

Plot: Simon (Jurassic World’s Tim Robinson) is a popular high school kid, who happens to be gay and hasn’t come out yet. But when another teenager in the school anonymously comes out on the school message board, he may have found someone he can finally talk to.

Go See It Because: This is a huge step for teen rom-coms, while also being very funny and super heart-warming.

Michael Inside

Irish Release Date: 6 April

Plot: When 18-year-old Michael (Dafhyd Flynn) is caught holding drugs for a friend, he is sent to prison, where he is taken under the wing of a hugely intimidating fellow prisoner (Moe Dunford), who may send Michael’s life off into an even darker direction.

Go See It Because: It is one of the best Irish movies of the 21st century.

Rampage

Irish Release Date: 13 April

Plot: Dwayne The Rock Johnson plays a primatologist who discovers his monkey friend has been infected by a compound that makes him really, REALLY big. And the monkey isn’t the only animal that has been infected…

Go See It Because: It is The Rock fighting a giant monkey, giant wolf and giant crocodile in a big city. What more do you want?

Truth Or Dare

Irish Release Date: 13 April

Plot: A group of friends travel to Mexico and play a harmless game of Truth Or Dare, but soon discover a curse has been placed on them, and if they don’t play along, they’ll all be killed off one by one.

Go See It Because: It comes from the folks behind Get Out, Paranormal Activity and The Purge, so chances are it will be a really good scary movie.

Tully

Irish Release Date: 20 April

Plot: Charlize Theron plays a struggling mother who is visited one day by a nanny (Mackenize Davis) who helps to turn her life around.

Go See It Because: Theron is delivering an amazing performance, and it comes from the writer of Juno and the director of Up In The Air.

Avengers: Infinity War

Irish Release Date: 26 April

Plot: 19 movies and 10 years later, Thanos has finally arrived, and it will take ALL of the Avengers, as well as some of their Guardians Of The Galaxy friends, to defeat him.

Go See It Because: It is literally the biggest movie of the year. Maybe of all time.
