Time to get the popcorn in.

It’s going to be a very happy Christmas for film fans in Clare because a brand new six-screen Omniplex cinema is opening at Skycourt, Shannon.

The €2m project commences next month and the Omniplex cinema is set to open in time for the release of Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Force must be strong with the builders!

Speaking about the new cinema, Mark Anderson, Director of Omniplex Cinemas, said: “Having recently announced plans for an expanded 6 screen cinema, we are delighted to have secured the necessary planning permission from Clare County Council.”

Works are estimated to take three months and the cinema will be open in time for film fans to see a list of blockbusters over the festive season, including Jumanji: The Next Level, Little Women, Star Wars and many more.

Omniplex’s involvement in Shannon is just a part of the cinema group’s expansion plans in the Republic of Ireland, which also include a new 10-screen cinema at the D’Luxx Cinema in Salthill, Galway as well as cinema plans in Ballinasloe, Killarney, Longford, Roscommon and a five-screen cinema in Mullingar.

Dan O’Flynn, Centre Manager for Skycourt Shopping Centre added: “We are very excited regarding the cinema plans as well as for what is to come once the cinema is up and running. The addition of more screens will allow for more daily viewings of the latest releases. A trip to the cinema has always been a much-loved treat and we are thrilled that Omniplex have extended on their original plan.”
