A classic Christmas film is among the movies on TV tonight

It’s one of a number of festive flicks airing this evening.

It’s Saturday, a typically big day in terms of movies airing on TV.

This week is no exception.

Here are your options.

John Wick – Sky Showcase – 9pm

In this excellent action flick, Keanu Reeves plays a legendary hitman who comes out of retirement after thugs kill his beloved dog.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard – Film 4 – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson do their thing in this average if watchable buddy action-comedy.

Kill Bill: Vol 2 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

The second part of Quentin Tarantino’s incredible martial arts epic.

The Equalizer 2 – Channel 4 – 9pm

Denzel Washington returns in this sequel to the hit reboot of the classic 80’s crime show.

The Lady in the Van – BBC Four – 9pm

In this acclaimed comedy-drama, a man (Alex Jennings) forms an unexpected bond with a woman (Maggie Smith) living in her van that’s parked in his driveway.

50 First Dates – Comedy Central – 9pm

Reuniting after The Wedding Singer, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star in this comedy about a man who falls for a woman with short-term memory loss.

Die Hard – RTÉ2 – 9.10pm

In our pick for tonight, Bruce Willis plays an NYPD officer who must save his wife and several others taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party in LA.

One of the best festive movies of all time, it features the legendary quote: “Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho.”

Bad Santa 2 – Virgin Media One – 9.30pm

Speaking of Christmas movies probably not suitable for all ages, Billy Bob Thornton reprises his role as a conman who poses as Santa in this black comedy.

Scent of a Woman – TG4 – 9.30pm

The movie which finally earned Al Pacino an Oscar.

The Untouchables – ITV 4 – 10pm

Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro and Sean Connery are among the cast of this fantastic crime thriller from filmmaker Brian De Palma.

Desperately Seeking Susan – BBC Two – 10pm

Madonna’s first major screen role, this comedy-drama centres on the interaction between two women – a bored housewife and a bohemian drifter – linked by various messages in the personals section of a newspaper.

Mo’ Better Blues – Sky Arts – 10.40pm

Another Denzel Washington film, here he stars in writer-director Spike Lee’s musical comedy drama about a jazz trumpeter.

Daddy’s Home 2 – Channel 4 – 11.20pm

Having finally gotten used to each other’s existence, Brad (Will Ferrell) and Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) must now deal with their intrusive fathers during the Christmas holidays.

This sequel to the 2015 hit festive comedy adds John Lithgow and Mel Gibson to the mix.

Liar Liar – RTÉ2 – 11.35pm

In this hit Jim Carrey comedy, a lawyer who built his entire career on lying finds himself cursed to speak only the truth for a single day

The Lost Boys – BBC One – 11.50pm

“One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach: all the damn vampires.”

National Lampoon’s Vacation – Turner Classic Movies – 11.55pm

In this classic comedy, Chevy Chase plays a man who takes his family on a cross-country road trip where anything that can go wrong does go wrong.
