Our TV movie pick for tonight (Thursday, 6 August) is Copycat, the hit 1995 psychological thriller film.
Co-written by Ann Biderman (Primal Fear, Ray Donovan) and directed by Jon Amiel (The Core, Entrapment), the story follows an agoraphobic psychologist (Oscar-nominee Sigourney Weaver, Aliens) and a female detective (Oscar-winner Holly Hunter, The Piano) who must work together to take down a mysterious serial killer.
The warped perpetrator has been committing copycat killings modelled after notorious murderers.
Also featuring in its cast Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend's Wedding), Harry Connick Jr (P.S. I Love You), and Will Patton (Horizon), Copycat was a hit at the box office and with critics, even if it wasn't the runaway success of the similar-in-plot Se7en that arrived in cinemas a few weeks before.
While Copycat lacks the magic touch that director David Fincher brought to Se7en, it's highly entertaining in its own right, thanks to its great lead turns by Hunter and Weaving, its twisted story, and its taut set-pieces.
Copycat is airing on TV tonight on the channel Legend at 9pm. It's also currently streaming on Prime Video.
