Creators of Sherlock are making a new show about another fictional icon

Carl Kinsella

Dracula

There are no immediate plans for Sherlock to return, but fans who miss the show are in for some very good news.

Sherlock creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis have agreed a deal with BBC and Netflix to take on a story about another literary icon: Dracula.

The show will take on a similar format to Sherlock — three episodes, each one 90-minutes long.

According to the show’s description by the BBC: “The 3×90’ mini-series is written and created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Three feature length episodes will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.”

Co-creators, writers and executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss said, “There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula, is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.”

Commissioning of the show was only announced today (15 October), so there are no details about casting or airdates just yet… But we do know that the show will be broadcast on both BBC One, and Netflix.
