The next lightsaber fight looks absolutely spectacular.

When it comes to Star Wars, there are certain things that fans expect.

The iconic John Williams score, that spectacular opening crawl that just sets the scene perfectly, the opening shot in space that transports you to the galaxy that’s far, far away.

Christ, these things all happen in the first two minutes!

Well, with the Skywalker saga set to conclude in Episode IX, it’s time for the ultimate showdown between good and evil, Jedi vs Sith, The Last Jedi (potentially?) vs the Supreme Leader of the First Order, Rey vs Kylo Ren.

Of course, this duel of the fates won’t be settled over a cup of blue milk and a friendly chat!

Throughout the history of the episodic Star Wars films, fans have been treated to some spectacular lightsaber battles and to many, these fights are the highlight of each film.

Cast your mind back to the emotionally-charged showdown between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader on the Death Star. Luke Skywalker losing his arm, but learning a galaxy-changing truth on Bespin. Darth Vader’s redemption through Luke and the demise (we thought!) of The Emperor in Return of the Jedi.

In terms of the prequels, you could argue that the lightsaber fights were the best thing about them too. Who can forget Darth Maul taking on Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn, the moment when Yoda ignited his lightsaber for the first time, or Anakin thinking that the higher ground meant nothing…the fool!

Well, Daisy Ridley is no stranger to handling a lightsaber, after all, the cliffhanger ending to The Force Awakens literally saw her handing a lightsaber over to Luke Skywalker.

Aside from this, Rey has gone toe-to-toe with Kylo Ren on a few occasions and fared very well – she kicked his ass in The Force Awakens and their duel with Supreme Leader Snoke and his guards in the throne room was spectacular – but what about the fight that we’ve been teased with in the trailer for The Rise of Skywalker?

While nothing official has been confirmed yet, it looks very likely that Kylo Ren and Rey will have some sort of duel on the wreckage of the Death Star and ahead of the film’s release, JOE caught up with Daisy Ridley to get her take on what it was like to film that scene.

“I wasn’t just sprayed by some water, there was lots! I’m sure there will be good bloopers on this film because obviously, there were water cannons firing everywhere. It was filmed in November in England, so, kudos! And we did it for six days, it was exhausting but I said to Dom – our special effects guy – ‘can you angle the water cannon away from me?’ We were doing this one take and it was like having a huge bucket of water that fell on top of my head. I literally just turned to the camera and was like ‘WTF dude?!?!’ It was the least glamorous thing ever, but apparently the fight looks great!,” she said.

Aside from this, the actress also chatted about Rey’s journey in The Rise of Skywalker, the backlash from The Last Jedi, and much more.

All will be revealed when Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is released on 19 December,
