‘One of the most underappreciated movies of the 21st century’ is on TV tonight

The sci-fi comes from the producer of Get Out and Paranormal Activity.

The film follows a married couple (played by Josh Hamilton and Keri Russell) whose peaceful suburban life with their sons is shattered by a "series of disturbing events that escalate".

"When it becomes clear that their family is being targeted by an unimaginably terrifying, deadly - and possibly alien - threat, the couple draw on their courage and determination to protect their family and identify what is after them," the plot synopsis adds.

The movie was a box office hit upon release, but received mixed reviews from critics.

We here at JOE would argue, though, that its fine cast (also including Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, Whiplash), its cool premise, and its creepy set pieces make it worth checking out for horror and sci-fi thriller fans.

We're not alone in our thoughts, as Time Magazine recently included the film on its list of the "50 most underappreciated movies of the 21st century".

Dark Skies is airing on TV tonight on the Sky Sci-Fi channel at 11pm. It's also currently streaming on the service NOW.

A troubled woman living in an isolated community finds herself pulled between the control of her oppressive family and the allure of a secretive outsider suspected of a series of brutal murders.

Starring Ireland's newest Oscar-winner Jessie Buckley (Hamnet) in her first lead feature film role, Beast was a hit with critics, earning a whopping 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

DeepStar Six - Legend Xtra - 11.10pm

A not well-regarded sea monster horror from the director of the original Friday the 13th.

Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story - Sky Arts - 11.15pm

Another 2024 music documentary, this time about Pauline Black, lead singer of 2-Tone hit band The Selecter.

A forgotten 2009 superhero thriller starring Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning.

Drive - Legend - 1.40am

Ryan Gosling plays a getaway driver who gets in over his head while trying to help his kindly neighbour (Carey Mulligan).

This crime thriller is one of the coolest movies ever made.
