The documentary series will focus around the shocking murder of a British couple in the ’70s while they were travelling through Central America.

While Netflix has become synonymous with true crime documentaries thanks to its many offerings in the sub-genre, Prime Video seems to be looking to enter the space with its new series Dead in the Water.

From Raw TV, the production company behind hit true crime docs The Tindler Swindler and Don’t F**k with Cats, Dead in the Water is a three-part series focusing on the murder of British couple Chris Farmer and Peta Frampton in the ’70s while they were travelling through Central America and the subsequent “long hunt for a brutal killer that spans four decades”.

The synopsis for the project reads:

“The year is 1978, a young British couple embark on the trip of a lifetime through remote Central America. Chris Farmer and Peta Frampton set out on an exhilarating backpacking adventure, the letters they write and the tapes they sent home were filled with tales of exotic landscapes, cultural encounters, and the thrill of the unknown. But their dream soon turns into a chilling nightmare when they are brutally murdered and the trail for their killer goes cold.

“Four decades later, failed by law enforcement, their family take up the manhunt and begin the descent into an unknown world of online sleuthing and make a shocking discovery.

“This is the story of a gap year gone terribly wrong, and a tale of two families on either side of the Atlantic, united by grief and bound by a common purpose – the pursuit of a killer, even when it seemed untenable, decades after his heinous crimes were committed.”

Dead in the Water does not have an exact release date as of yet but will be released in Ireland and the UK on Prime Video sometime in 2024.
