Derry Girls Crystal Maze Channel 4

The most ambitious crossover event in history?

Following the runaway success of Derry Girls comes a unique team-up that we didn’t know we wanted but very much do; Derry Girls take on The Crystal Maze.

The iconic Channel 4 gameshow is back in June with all-new celebrity special episodes, and the Derry Girls special will see cast members Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Dylan Llewellyn and team captain Saoirse-Monica Jackson taking part.

The Girls will face off against host Richard Ayoade and the various Maze-themed traps and trials that they encounter in the famous Aztec, Medieval, Futuristic and Industrial zones.

Other familiar faces set to appear are eight-time Paralympic medalist David Weir, former Chelsea and Manchester City footballer Wayne Bridge, Countdown star Rachel Riley, Charlotte Crosby of Geordie Shore fame and tennis ambassador Judy Murray.

The new celebrity editions of the Crystal Maze will also see the likes of Katie Price, Happy Mondays hype man Bez, Pussycat Doll member Ashley Roberts and legendary broadcaster Richard Madeley among others taking part.

But it’s all about that Derry Girls episode, let’s be honest.

After just one season, Lisa McGee’s record-smashing show recently led the charge in the Irish Film and Television Awards nominations.

As for what to expect from season two? McGee is keen to get Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle on board, for one, as well as maintaining the effective mix of light and dark.

“I am just trying to find stories for the main characters at the minute so I am coming up with those and trying to just find the joy of it again,” she said back in February.

“It was really nice writing that first series so I need to just go back and talk to my friends and find those stories”
