Season three will be the show's last.

Channel 4 have released a teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Derry Girls, which is set to premiere some time in 2022.

Sharing the clip to Twitter on Christmas Eve, the channel called it "a Christmas gift from us to thee".

In the short trailer, the gang appear to have gotten themselves into a little bit of trouble, as they are ordered by police to put their hands in the air.

As police flashlights shine on the group's faces, a pretty terrified Erin (Saoirse Monica Jackson) cries:

"This is a set up!”

The hit show, which follows the lives of a group of teenagers living in Derry during the Troubles, wrapped up filming earlier this week.

Nicola Coughlan took to Instagram to say her goodbyes to the series.

"Goodbye Derry Girls, it's been quite a ride," she wrote.

Creator Lisa McGee said she had always planned for the show to end after three seasons.

In a statement issued back in September, McGee said:

"Who knows if Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle and James will return in some other guide someday, but for now, this is it for us and we're excited to start filming this series with our incredible cast and crew to hopefully take our loyal fans on one last adventure.

"Derry Girls is a love letter to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It has been an honour to write it and I will forever be proud of everything it's achieved."
