Our TV movie pick for tonight (Thursday, 15 October) is Don't Look Now, the 1970s psychological thriller directed by Nicolas Roeg (The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Witches).
An adaptation of a short story by Daphne du Maurier (Rebecca), the film stars Donald Sutherland (MASH) and Julie Christie (Darling). They play John and Laura Baxter, a couple still grieving the accidental death of their daughter.
The pair travel to Venice in Italy, where John's been commissioned to restore a church. There, Laura meets two sisters (played by Clelia Matania and Hilary Mason) who claim to be in touch with the spirit of the Baxters' daughter.
"Laura takes them seriously, but John scoffs until he himself catches a glimpse of what looks like Christine running through the streets of Venice," the plot synopsis adds.
Beautiful, sad, and properly scary, the movie has inspired generations of filmmakers and is now widely considered one of the greatest thrillers ever.
Don't Look Now is airing on TV tonight on BBC Four at 10.45pm. It's also available to rent on Apple TV, Prime Video, and the Sky Store.
