The director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead is doing something very different…
Edgar Wright is one of those writer/directors that gets a lot of love from movie lovers, but none of his movies ever seem to make THAT much money.
While we all loved Spaced when it was TV, he followed it up with Shaun Of The Dead, which made only $30 million at the box office worldwide.
After that, we got Hot Fuzz ($80 million), Scott Pilgrim VS The World ($48 million), The World’s End ($46 million), and then he was dropped by Disney and Marvel from directing Ant-Man, before he went on to make the biggest hit of his career, Baby Driver ($227 million).
We were lucky enough to chat with the man himself back then, in case you’re interested:
Having finally got something of a hit under his belt, all eyes were on Wright to see what he’d do next, and he’s decided to make a massive left turn and make a documentary about a not-THAT-well-known band.
Wright told IndieWire that he is currently collecting archival footage on cult pop-rock band Sparks, having already filmed one of their recent concerts.
“I already shot their London concert in late May. The rest of is it [to be determined] and we’re currently scouring the archives. I have been a fan of them since I saw them on Top Of The Pops in 1979 — and when I had ‘Beat The Clock’ on vinyl.”
The band released their 23rd (yes, TWENTY-THIRD) album in 2017, and have previously worked with artists such as Giorgio Moroder and Franz Ferdinand.
There is currently no set release date for Wright’s project, but we suspect we won’t see it before the beginning of 2019.
