A shocking number of people use their ex’s Netflix account

Rory Cashin

A new survey reveals that a huge percentage of Netflix users make use of the service without the account holder’s permission.

We all know somebody who is guilty of doing this.

And if we don’t know somebody, then chances are that is because we ourselves are guilty of it.

But a new survey has revealed just how many people are using the Netflix accounts of others, and who in your life is most likely to be using your account.

Tech website Exstreamist surveyed thousands of people, and discovered 44% of Netflix users who use someone else’s account do so without their knowledge.

Only 34% of users of other people’s accounts do so with the explicit awareness of the account user, and the other 22% don’t know either way.

Meanwhile, the breakdown of Netflix users who access the account of someone they don’t live with is quite interesting.

22% are using their parent’s account, 20% are using a friend’s account, 17% are using their girlfriend or boyfriend’s account.

13% are using a former roommate’s account, 3% are using a sibling’s account, and a shocking 13% are using an ex’s account. We’re guessing there is a huge crossover between that 13% and the 44% who are using the account without the user’s knowledge…

Here are some of the best comments from those who took part in the survey:

“I’m using my ex-girlfriend’s parents’ Netflix account.”

“My parents never use it, so I just use their account.”

“I don’t have any idea whose Netflix account I’m using. I got a login from a friend who had one of their friend’s logins I think.”

“My roommate moved out, she left behind her Netflix login though. Thanks Mel!”

“My ex still hasn’t changed their password on me.”

“Only one person is paying for Netflix in my friend group, we all use their login.”
