The excellent documentary series on Billy Connolly finishes tonight and it looks very powerful

Paul Moore

Billy Connolly

Essential for fans of the iconic comedian.

To anyone who watched the first part of Billy Connolly: Made In Scotland, two things are very clear.

The comedian is extremely proud of his working class background and how it shaped his comedy stylings. Secondly, there isn’t a comedian alive that hasn’t been influenced by ‘The Big Yin’ as he absolutely revolutionised the game.

Through sheer talent and force of personality, the Glaswegian ploughed a different and deeply personal, yet universal approach to comedy and in doing so he changed the face of comedy forever.

As reported previously, the documentary could be one of Connolly’s last ever TV features because he has been extremely frank and honest about his battles with illness.

“My life is slipping away and I can feel it and I should. I’m 75 and I’m a damn sight nearer the end than I am the beginning. But it doesn’t frighten me – it’s an adventure and it’s quite interesting to see myself slipping away, as bits slip off and leave me, talents leave and attributes leave,” he said.

The second part of the documentary series Made In Scotland airs tonight (4 January) and it’s set to give viewers an intimate, deeply personal and very funny look at his life.

Weaved around personal accounts and interviews from famous faces including Eddie Izzard, Ross Noble, Micky Flanagan, AL Kennedy, Tracey Ullman, Val McDermid, Sharleen Spiteri and Eddi Reader, the new episode finds Connolly back in the Scotland of his childhood, where he reveals that knitted woolly swimming trunks were not a figment of his imagination.

Aside from this, as you can see below, we’re also going to get a deep dive on the art of cursing from the master himself.

Billy Connolly: Made in Scotland airs tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.
