Fantastic news for Mindhunter fans as the directors for Season 2 look set to be announced

Paul Moore

Mindhunter Season 2

This is going to be epic.

It has been an incredibly busy few days for Netflix as the online streaming giant announced a host of new and returning shows, but they’ve arguably saved their best news until last.

As reported by The Playlist, the director of Se7en, Fight Club and Zodiac, David Fincher, will return behind the lens for Season 2 of Mindhunter. Of course, Fincher is an executive producer on the show and he also directed two episodes in the first season, but this directorial news is just what Mindhunter fans want to hear.

There’s even better news because it’s reported that Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and Carl Franklin (House of Cards, Homeland) will also be directing episodes for Season 2.

As stated previously, we think The Assassination of Jesse James is one of the most underrated films of the last decade and Dominik’s other work is equally impressive – check out his Nick Cave documentary One More Time with Feeling and the superb drama, Chopper.

Sadly, the same report states that Season 2 will only have eight episodes – that’s two less than the 10-episode first season.

Granted, nothing official has been announced yet but if this is the actual directorial lineup, we wonder if Brad Pitt might be sounded out for a role in the series? After all, Pitt has frequently collaborated with Dominik and Fincher before.

Anyway, production on Season 2 is expected to start in May and it’s scheduled to be released on Netflix at the start of 2019. Again, nothing official has been announced just yet.

Regarding the plot, Fincher has previously said that the new season will focus on the infamous Atlanta child murders.

“Next year we’re looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we’ll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice. The music will evolve. It’s intended to support what’s happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons,” Fincher told Billboard last year.

If Season 2 is even half as good as the first one, we’re in for a treat.
