“Fiji Water Girl” is now suing Fiji Water

Oh, how the tables have turned.

Kelleth Cuthbert aka Kelly Steinbach aka Fiji Water Girl made headlines earlier this month when she stole the show on the Golden Globes Awards red carpet.

At first, social media users couldn’t get over the striking good looks of the woman handing out bottles of water to the real celebrities making their way into the award show.

As it turned out, it was of course a well-calculated marketing ploy by Fiji Water, who had specifically hired several of the most beautiful people on earth to stand there looking beautiful and pose with Fiji Water.

But now it looks like the move may have backfired on Fiji Water, as Steinbach is suing her former employer. According to Deadline, the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims a cardboard cutout marketing campaign was created the day after the Golden Globes using her image without authorisation.

Court documents allege that the company  “pressured Steinbach into video recording a fake signing of a fake document to simulate Steinbach signing on as a Fiji Water Ambassador.”

Fiji Water issued a statement on the lawsuit. “This lawsuit is frivolous and entirely without merit. After the Golden Globes social media moment, we negotiated a generous agreement with Ms. Cuthbert that she blatantly violated. We are confident that we will prevail in court. Throughout our history, we have had a sterling reputation working with talent.”
