What movies scared the crap out of you as a kid? Here’s a few that some still find traumatising

Paul Moore

So much nostalgic horror. Which moments terrified you as a child?

With a new version of Stephen King’s IT hitting the cinema soon, a new generation of film fans are going to be emotionally scarred for life after encountering Pennywise for the first time.

This being said, anyone that was raised in the late ’80s and early ’90s will know that nothing can top Tim Curry’s creepy and unsettling turn as the demonic clown.

IT gave an entire generation nightmares, but not to sound too much like an old fart, modern day TV and cinema just doesn’t have the same amount of scares as it used to, especially in relation to shows/films that were deemed suitable for children.

Think about it. Gremlins, Vigo from Ghostbusters II, Anjelica Huston changing into a witch in The Witches, The Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They were all terrifying!

With this in mind, Film 4 asked their followers to name those moments from their childhood that traumatised them the most. The replies are a glimpse into some brilliantly nostalgic horror.

Yep, we all didn’t sleep after seeing these!

Here’s their original tweet along with some of the traumatic replies.

Some of you may have needed to see a therapist after witnessing these.

And finally, my own trauma. Any moments that you would care to add?
