The first episode of the Tommy Tiernan show got a fantastic reception from viewers

Hosting a chat show in Ireland can prove to be a tricky business. Despite its longevity and a consistently massive audience, criticising the Late Late Show is something of a national pastime, while everyone from Ray D’Arcy to Miriam O’Callaghan to Brendan O’Connor have found that it’s not always easy to win over a crowd. It didn’t seem to be much of an issue for Tommy Tiernan in the first episode of the Tommy Tiernan Show on Thursday night, which garnered an almost universally positive reaction from those tuning in on social media. And there must have been quite a few of them too, because #TommyTiernanShow was trending in Ireland last night. Aslan’s Christy Dignam, Vogue Williams and Russell Howard were the guests on the night (neither Tommy nor the audience knew who they were going to be until they showed up) and Tommy’s interaction with them went down a storm.
