Chris Rock and Sam Jackson appear in the brand new horror trailer.
Between 2004 and 2017, there were no less than EIGHT movies in the Saw franchise, but it is probably fair to say that audience interest began to rapidly dwindle around the third or fourth entry.
Never one to let a good intellectual property die, Hollywood are hitting the reset button (we think?) with Spiral, which seems to re-aim the Saw franchise into something a little different than we're used to.
Chris Rock stars, executive produces, and also came up with the story of this new take, playing a detective with a new partner (The Social Network's Max Minghella) who are the first responders to a crime scene that will look a little familiar to those aware of Jigsaw's modus operandi.
Also in the mix is Samuel L. Jackson, and the movie's plot synopsis gives us a little more insight into how it all ties together:
"A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel 'Zeke' Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city's gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game."
Directed by the guy behind Saw II, III and IV, here is hoping that Chris Rock can successfully breath some new life into "the book of Saw".
Spiral is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 15 May.
