Force Awakens and Last Jedi being shown in cinemas around Ireland ahead of midnight Rise Of Skywalker screenings

Rory Cashin

Nearly seven-and-a-half hours in a galaxy far, far away…

Well, this is it.

Once we get Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise Of Skywalker, that is the last of this saga we’ll likely ever have.

Not the last of Star Wars, obviously, but the Skywalker storyline will be no more.

Episode VII – The Force Awakens and Episode XIII – The Last Jedi both have their huge fans and detractors, but you can’t say that both movies didn’t end up being massive talking points upon their release.

And now, 42 years since A New Hope arrived, and after nine movies, it will all be over.

For those who are maybe wanting a big screen reminder of what has happened in the most-recent trilogy so far, then we have some good news for you, as Omniplex Cinemas will be showing Episodes XII and XIII ahead of the midnight screening of Episode IX.

So this is how it will play out, kicking off on Wednesday 18 December:

The Force Awakens at 6pm, The Last Jedi at 9pm, and The Rise Of Skywalker at midnight.

Tickets are already on sale now, in the following Omniplex cinemas: Antrim, Arklow, Banbridge, Bangor, Belfast (Dundonald), Belfast (Kennedy Centre), Cork (Mahon Point), Craigavon, Derry, Dublin (Rathmines), Dundalk, Galway (Salthill), Larne, Limerick, Lisburn, Newry, Omagh, Sligo, Tralee, and Wexford.

The Rise Of Skywalker is said to be 155 minutes long, so you’ll be getting out of the cinema close to 3am. Bring all the space snacks you can get your hands on!

But if you feel you are all caught up and just watch to catch the new one, Episode IX will hit Irish cinemas from Thursday 19 December, making sure that nobody can put out their Best Of 2019 lists until after that…
