A Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion show is coming this year

September marks the 30th anniversary of the show

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is the latest classic show to get a reunion, as the cast will reunite for an unscripted special.

The special, which will feature music, dancing and surprise guests, will mark the 30th anniversary of the sitcom and will look at the history of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, as well as the cultural impact the show had.

The reunion will be recorded this month, and launch on the HBO Max streaming service in the US at Thanksgiving in November. There is no word on if the special will make it to these parts just yet (there's still no word on if or when we will ever get HBO Max on this side of the Atlantic at all).

Will Smith, Tatyana Ali (Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Vivian), Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton) and DJ Jazzy Jeff have all been confirmed for the special.

James Avery, who played Uncle Phil, died in 2013.

Daphne Maxwell Reid was the second actress to plat Aunt Vivian on the show, taking over from Janet Hubert, who had reportedly feuded with Will Smith.

The news of the reunion comes just weeks after the announcement that the show was being rebooted as a serious drama.

The new show, titled just Bel-Air, is based on a viral spoof trailer reimagining the show as a realistic drama.

Created by fan Morgan Cooper, the clip has racked up two million views since being posted in March 2019, and caught the attention of Will Smith himself, who liked it so much that it is now being shopped around as an actual series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is being offered to streamers including HBO Max, Netflix and Peacock.

The original The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ran from 1990 to 1996, for 148 episodes over six seasons.
