It is a loose adaptation of a hit 1980s serial killer thriller.

Furious, a new thriller with Emmy Rossum (Shameless) and Ireland's Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing, Trespasses), will be available to stream later this month.

Coming to Disney+, the series is created by Liz Meriwether (The Dropout, New Girl). It is a loose adaptation of the hit 1987 neo-noir film Black Widow, starring Debra Winger and Theresa Russell.

The plot synopsis for the show reads: "Furious follows an FBI agent, Alice Black (Rossum), on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer (Petticrew).

"Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur."

Also featuring amongst its cast Jake Lacy (The White Lotus), Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), and Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly), Furious is just one of several exciting projects for the Belfast-born Petticrew.

Others include the drama film I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, which also features Petticrew's Say Nothing co-star Anthony Boyle, and Netflix's upcoming Assassin's Creed TV series.

Furious will premiere on Monday, July 27, with three episodes dropping on Disney+ internationally.

The rest of its eight-episode season will release weekly on Mondays.
