Much like the maintenance crew at Eastwatch – that is if the Night’s Watch have any janitors that are still alive – Game of Thrones fans are picking through the wreckage that the Night King unleashed in that stunning finale.
Daenerys has often spoken about breaking the wheel. The Night King has just broken the Wall and he did so in spectacular fashion.
In fact, some Game of Thrones fans are even rooting for the leader of the White Walkers to conquer the Seven Kingdoms.
Think about it. Not only is he intelligent, ruthless, powerful and magical – he can raise the dead and is probably a greenseer – but he’s also one of the few characters in the show that refuses to get distracted from their ultimate goal.
There are still some massive questions though. What does the Night King want? Why are the dead marching on the Seven Kingdoms? How in the name of God can they be stopped?
Now that the dead have passed the Wall, it’s clear that Winterfell will be one of their first points of attack.
Here’s what the North looks like and you can see that the distance between Eastwatch and Winterfell isn’t that far.
At the end of the episode, as the army of the dead passed through the rubble of the Wall, eagle-eyed Game of Thrones fans spotted a very familiar pattern in how the Night King’s soldiers were walking.
Doesn’t this pattern look an awful lot like the sigil for House Stark, the direwolf, to you?
If so, perhaps we’ve an insight into where the Night King’s army is headed.
We knew that the Night King was on the march and that Winterfell would be an inevitable target, but could this be the location where the first battle in The Great War takes place?
Aside from being the he seat of the ruler of the North, Winterfell also contains a Godswood that would be of particular interest to the leader of the White Walkers.
According to legend, House Stark has held a castle at Winterfell for 8,000 years since it was built by Brandon the Builder after the Long Night ended. Poetic that it could fall at the start of The Great War.
We’re frequently told that “There must always be a Stark in Winterfell,” and if this image is genuinely an indication of the Night King’s plan of attack, Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen better hurry home.
After agreeing to travel with Dany on that boat, he has some distance to travel from White Harbour.
Plenty of Game of Thrones fans have spotted this pattern and they’re already getting very excited.
Stannis Baratheon couldn’t take Winterfell from Ramsay, Theon Greyjoy was unable to hold it but will the Night King destroy it?
