Game On: Sony to develop Sega vs Nintendo movie

It's war...

It’s war…

According to IGN, Sony Pictures is set to develop the film adaptation of Blake J. Harris’ upcoming book Console Wars: SEGA, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation.

The book is a “behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionised the video game industry.”

American film producer Scott Rudin, the man behind brilliant book-to-film adaptations The Social Network and Moneyball, has employed the directorial services and screenwriting talents of funnymen Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, This Is The End), so it seems that Sony will be going down the comedy console route as they examine the fascinating story of the gaming industry war that dominated the 1990s.

Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars is the David vs Goliath underdog tale of how ex-Sega CEO Tom Kalinske miraculously turned an industry punchline into a market leader.

Rumours that Morgan Freeman has signed on to play Sonic the Hedgehog and that Bob Hoskins is to reprise his role as Mario are completely untrue and entirely made up.
