Game of Thrones reveals the fate of two beloved characters and answer a massive question about the recent finale

Paul Moore

We’ve been wondering for ages.

As always, consider this to be your Game of Thrones spoiler if you’re not up to date with the most recent cliffhanger.

Ok, don’t blame us if you learn something here that you didn’t want to know?

To begin with, the Night King’s destruction of The Wall via Viserion really can be called a cliffhanger because after that epic sequence, all that was left of the area that was adjacent to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea was a cliff.

Cast your mind back to the final meeting between Jon Snow and Dolorous Edd and Jon’s final line to his friend as he said “Don’t knock it down while I’m gone.”

Well, those words proved to be fatal as the army of the dead march on Westeros as the Long Night is finally here.

On that note, plenty of fans were curious about the fate of Beric Dondarrion and Tormund Giantsbane after the two men were left defending The Wall during that epic attack by the Night King.

After our own detailed account of that scene, it appears that HBO have confirmed that both characters did survive this attack on The Wall.

HBO have submitted the Season 7 finale, The Dragon and the Wolf, for Emmy consideration – it was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series – and their description of that particular sequence is telling.

In the segment that applies to Tormund and Beric, the script reads, “Tormund and Beric lead their wildling comrades to the stairs carved in the ice — Eastwatch has a massive zig-zag stairway, not an elevator like Castle Black. They run for their lives and disappear from view.

All things considered, we think it’s safe to say that Tormund will still have the chance to make those ‘great big monsters” that could  take over the world with Brienne.
