Game of Thrones Season 8 is so action-packed that The Mountain needed his very first stunt double

Paul Moore

The Mountain Thrones

This is really something.

He has gouged out eyeballs, slammed heads into the wall, crushed skulls like a grape, and probably killed more people in Westeros than malaria, but The Mountain is going to need some help.

Christ, when the strongest man in the world and the most fearsome man in the Seven Kingdoms needs help killing people, you know that Season 8 is going to be something truly special.

We’ve already been promised the biggest battle in the history of TV and film, but one thing that Game of Thrones has always been good at is never losing sight of their characters.

For example ,The Battle of the Bastards was epic in every sense of the word, but those little moments when the camera focused on Jon and Ramsay reminded you of just how deeply personal things felt. Ultimately, this attention to detail made the scene where Jon beats the living shite out of Lord Bolton all the more sweeter.

This being said, one rivalry has the potential to eclipse even that spectacle and you know what that is, Cleganebowl.

The Hound vs The Mountain. Gregor vs Sandor. Brother vs brother.

If there’s a god – both old and new – this bloodbath will take place in Season 8 because fans have been crying out for it.

In fact, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (The Mountain) has said that he always did the stunts and physical work on the show, but in the new episodes, he “had a stunt double there” for the very first time.

Apparently, this new stuntman is even “taller” than him, and still “big”. “He was tall, not as muscular,” he said to Mashable.

14 April can’t come quickly enough as Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in Ireland.
