George R.R. Martin warns that his next book, The Winds of Winter, will be his darkest yet

How much darker can it get?

How did you like that ending to the last season of Game of Thrones? Yep, we agree, it was spectacular.

That song from the wildfire scene is still stuck in our heads to this day.

It could be argued that despite the many multitudes of deaths in the last two episodes of the latest series of Game of Thrones, the season did end on an oddly uplifting note with the bond between Jon and Sansa as well as Daenerys finally making the trip to Westeros.

But it seems George R.R. Martin, the writer of the books which the series is based on, has no plans to keep the uplifting mood rolling into his latest book in the series, The Winds of Winter.

There are a lot of dark chapters right now in the book that I’m writing,” he said during a Q&A at the Guadalajara International Book Fair, according to Entertainment Weekly. “It is called The Winds of Winter, and I’ve been telling you for 20 years that winter was coming. Winter is the time when things die, and cold and ice and darkness fill the world, so this is not going to be the happy feel-good that people may be hoping for. Some of the characters [are] in very dark places.”

GRRM went onto tease the long-awaited ending to the series, which will be in the book A Dream Of Spring, and suggested that there will be no Hollywood/fairytale ending to the series.

“I’m not going to tell you how I’m going to end my book, but I suspect the overall flavor is going to be as much bittersweet as it is happy.”

Now that you’re all sad from this news, take a look at the bloopers from Season 6, it will cheer you right up
