Unlike The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man when he was rampaging through the streets of New York, Jason Reitman has managed to
sneak up on film fans everywhere with the news that he's about to unleash a brand new Ghostbusters film.
Unlike the recent all-female reboot, Reitman's film will be a direct sequel to his father Ivan Reitman's original Ghostbusters series.
Well, much like Slimer whenever he sees a free buffet, the director of Young Adult and Thank You For Smoking just can't help himself when it comes to dishing out the good news because a teaser trailer for the 2020 film has also been released.
As for the script, Reitman is on co-writing duties with Gil Kenan (the director of Monster House and the Poltergeist remake).
While nothing major is revealed in the trailer, it's good to hear the original score from the film and that iconic noise of the proton packs being charged up.
We defy anyone not to get a giddy thrill at the reveal of Ecto-1 too.
This being said, we really hope the the new film can add to the legacy that was created by Ray, Egon, Venkman, and Winston - all this without mentioning the contributions of Louis, Dana, Janine, Gozer the Gozerian, Vigo the Carpathian and the ultimate jerk, Walter Peck.
The younger Reitman had this to say about being given the opportunity to have a hand in such an iconic franchise:
"I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.
He adds:
"This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day."
