More details about Godzilla vs. Kong have emerged and it sounds absolutely bonkers

The monster mash we’ve all been waiting for!

Hollywood’s most recent take on Godzilla, released in 2014, was seen as something of a success (definitely a step up from the Matthew Broderick version that was released in 1998), which was then followed up by the sort-of-prequel Kong: Skull Island in 2017.

That movie featured a post-credits sequence, which basically connected the dots for the audience that the giant lizard and the giant ape were eventually going to cross paths:

We’ve known for a while that Godzilla vs. Kong was definitely on the way, but more and more info was been given recently.

First up, the very impressive cast-list:

Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Shun Oguri (Gintama), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Demian Bichir (The Nun), Van Marten (The Walking Dead) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon).

That is pretty impressive, as is the fact that it is being directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next) and written by a highly impressive writer’s room headed by Terry Rossio (Disney’s Aladdin, the first Shrek movie, and the first Pirates Of The Caribbean).

Rossio’s script now has an official plot synopsis, which goes as follows:

“In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.”

Well now.

That would seem to indicate that the upcoming Godzilla: King Of The Monsters will not only be releasing the beasts upon the world, but those beasts will be staying out of the shadows for some time yet!

You can also, from the above cast-list, maybe figure out who isn’t going to make it through to the end credits of that movie.

We’ll know for sure when Godzilla vs. Kong arrives in Irish cinemas on 22 May 2020, but before then, we’ve got King Of The Monsters arriving on 31 May 2019.
