Incredibly tense trailer for the Chernobyl finale shows us ‘what happened on that fateful night’

“A kind of justice will be done” as the superb show comes to an end.

In case you haven’t seen Chernobyl yet, you need to rectify that immediately because Craig Mazin’s show is rightfully earning all of the plaudits and praise coming its way.

In relation to the TV show itself, there are some mild spoilers ahead.

At the very beginning of the drama, we were informed about the fate of the deputy director of the Kurchatov Institute, Valery Legasov (Jared Harris), but with just one episode left, it’s clear that the political ramifications from the horrific accident are beginning to amplify.

Throughout the series, Emily Watson’s character – Ulana Khomyuk, a scientist from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research – has been risking her own safety by trying to uncover the truth about what actually caused the reactor to explode on that fateful night of 26 April, 1986.

It appears that her investigation is going to be the main focus of the final episode.

In terms of historical accuracy and storytelling, the miniseries has been incredibly respectful when it comes to portraying the horrors of what unfolded following one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history.

It’s clear that the heartbreaking stories from those brave men and women who sacrificed themselves to save Europe from unimaginable disaster have also resonated with viewers.

However, after some traumatic episodes, Mazin has said that “the hard part’s over. No more guns. No more death” because Chernobyl will conclude with “a kind of justice” being done as the drama returns to the big question: How did this happen?

The finale and fifth episode is titled Vichnaya Pamyat and the synopsis reads: “The powerful Sky original concludes as Valery Legasov, Boris Shcherbina and Ulana Khomyuk risk everything to expose the truth about Chernobyl.”

It’s bound to be a fitting conclusion to a stunning show.

Take a look at what’s in store.

Chernobyl airs on Sky Atlantic every Tuesday at 2am and at 9pm.
