Set in 2018, during the war in Afghanistan, the story follows US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal, Ambulance) and his Afghan interpreter, Ahmed (Dar Salim, The Gentlemen).
After an ambush by the Taliban, Ahmed goes to Herculean lengths to save Kinley’s life.
"When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first," the plot synopsis adds.
Alongside Gyllenhaal and Salim, the cast of The Covenant includes Alexander Ludwig (Bad Days for Life), Antony Starr (The Boys), Emily Beecham (Little Joe), James Nelson-Joyce (This City is Ours), and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting).
Acclaimed for its two lead performances, its "suspenseful" set-pieces, and its "moving" story, the movie earned rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, as evidenced by the film's high scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
