Now that’s how you do a good horror trailer.

Ringu, Ju-on: The Grudge, Shutter, Audition, Train to Busan, A Tale of Two Sisters, The Eye, The Wailing, Dark Water.

When it comes to original horror, there’s no denying that Asia has consistently been the leader in terms of originality and innovation. As you may know, some of Hollywood’s biggest horror hits are remakes of beloved classics, but in terms of TV shows, HBO are tapping into the genre with their their new show Folklore.

Folklore is a six-episode series that takes place across six Asian countries — Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand – and the first trailer is a cracker.

As you can see below, there’s something here for every sort of horror fan as bats of blood, creepy imagery, jump scares, haunting scenes, and a sense of foreboding dread are all present.

Muck like the various series of American Horror Story, each episode focuses on a respective country’s terrifying myths and folklore.

Six different directors will each tell their own story in their respective language.

For example, the Indonesia-set A Mother’s Love focuses on a single mother and her young son, who discover a group of dirty and under-fed children living in a mansion’s attic.

The episode set in Malaysia focuses on a politician who turns to a mysterious woman with supernatural powers in order to salvage his town’s dire economic situation.

Folklore is set to air on HBO in February and while an Irish date hasn’t been set, we fully expect it to arrive on Sky Atlantic at some point in the near future.
