Here are the very best documentaries from 2016 that you might have missed

If you’re looking for a new documentary, these should all be on your list. Four of them are on Netflix.

The documentary format has always been incredibly popular with filmmakers, but it’s clear that the advent of Netflix and faster Internet connectivity has seen the public’s demand for factual entertainment absolutely skyrocket.

Binge watching a documentary series is now an essential part of people’s TV routine and if you’re looking for something new, we might have just the thing for you.

Every year, the Peabody Awards honour the most powerful, enlightening and invigorating stories in television, radio and digital media.

What’s unique about the Peabody Awards though is that they aim to promote films that capture society’s most important issues—known as the Peabody 30.

Here’s their shortlist of the best documentaries from 2016. How many have you seen?

Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing (HBO)
Plot: A recounting of the Boston Marathon terrorist attacks through the experiences of individuals whose lives were forever changed on April 15, 2013.

Plot: Real-life stories examining the ripple effect of sexual crimes against two teen girls within the new world of social media bullying.

Zero Days  (Showtime)
Plot: An exploration of cyber warfare and its potential impact on global peace.

Plot: Character-driven, behind-the-scenes look at the world of college football.
