Hold on because Designated Survivor might not be dead yet

Designated Survivor return

News that every Designated Survivor fan will love.

Throughout the history of 24, it appeared that nothing could stop or kill Kiefer Sutherland’s beloved character, Jack Bauer.

Guns, nuclear bombs, poison, torture and countless terrorists couldn’t stop Jack but as reported previously, those pesky suits appear to have put an end to Sutherland’s most recent show, Designated Survivor, after ABC cancelled the show.

Well, it appears that might not be the case because Netflix are seriously considering the idea of making a third season.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news and while a deal is still far from completion – the series is an expensive one to make and the streaming rights currently belong to Hulu in the US – it’s a very intriguing prospect.

If the show does return, it’s widely expected to be under the guise of a new showrunner that would replace the previous one, Keith Eisner (The Good Wife)

In fact, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey stated that the high turnover of showrunners was one of the main reasons for its cancellation.. “The show had a lot of behind-the-scenes churn with the number of showrunners,” he said.

While not a massive hit in terms of live ratings or critical adulation, Designated Survivor has become a cult favourite since arriving on the Netflix platform.

After Brooklyn Nine-Nine was saved this week, could TV fans get a double dose of good news?
