Horror movie starring Elisha Cuthbert to begin shooting in Roscommon next month

The scariest thing to hit Roscommon since a UFO allegedly crashed in Boyle in the mid-’90s.

A new horror movie starring Elisha Cuthbert and Irish actor Eoin Macken is to begin shooting in Roscommon next month.

According to Deadline, Cuthbert and Macken will star in The Cellar, which will have Irish director Brendan Muldowney at the helm and will be released in Ireland next year by Wildcard Distribution (The Hole In The Ground, The Young Offenders, Cardboard Gangsters).

The Cellar, the synopsis says, tells the story of Keira Woods (Cuthbert), whose daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house in the country.

Keira soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.

According to the Roscommon Herald, meanwhile, shooting will begin on November 16 and will run to just before Christmas in locations in Roscommon town, Castlerea and Boyle, where Chris O’Dowd recently filmed the TV series, Moone Boy.

A callout has already been made for Roscommon-based crew members with their own transport and there are expected to be approximately 60 crew members involved overall.

The Cellar will be part-funded by Epic Pictures and by the Western Regional Audiovisual Producers Funds (WRAP), who have estimated that it will be worth €1.4 million to the local economy.

There is no sign of a specific release date just yet, but it all sounds spookier than Halloween night at The King House in Boyle, believed to be one of the scariest places in the county.
