The iconic Face/Off to get the reboot treatment in brave effort to top perfection

Paul Moore

Face/Off

“I want to take his face… off.” All we ask is that they bring back Cage and Travolta.

Doves, guns, Cage going full-Cage, lines like “Y’know, I could eat a peach for hours”, Face/Off is still a bloody riot to watch.

It has been 22 years since Sean Archer (John Travolta) and Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) swapped faces in John Woo’s action thriller and it still holds up due to the sheer levels of lunacy, OTT action and bonkers performances from its two lead actors.

Deadline are reporting that Paramount are giving the film a face lift with news that Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox) is set to write the script for a reboot that will feature a new cast.

If the producers are reading this, we know that you’re going to hire a new cast but please give Cage and Travolta some small roles. That’s all we ask.

If you haven’t seen the original, we’ve got two questions?

  1. Why have you waited this long to see it?
  2. Do you have any plans for this evening? If you do, cancel them and watch Face/Off instead.

In terms of the plot, Face/Off is absolutely bonkers. At the beginning, Travolta plays FBI agent Sean Archer, a man obsessed with catching a homicidal sociopath named Castor Troy, who is responsible for killing his son.

The agent undergoes facial transplant surgery and takes the face of his enemy so he can be sent to prison to find out a bomb’s whereabouts and stop an attack. The plan goes south, however, when the bad guy wakes up and takes the face of the FBI agent.

Cage is Travolta, Travolta is Cage.

It’s as good as you could imagine. We genuinely love the film but every single frame of it is a meme.

Will the reboot be able to capture the cult appeal of the original? We shall wait and see.
