Idris Elba

It’s going to be a busy summer behind the decks for Luther.

Idris Elba is a man of many surprises, as you may have found out recently when he was added to this year’s Forbidden Fruit festival line-up.

That’s right, because the Luther and The Wire star moonlights as a DJ.

Who knew?

Now, Netflix has confirmed that he will be merging both his day and night jobs with the announcement of an upcoming comedy series, which he is set to produce and star in.

Turn Up Charlie will be one of the streaming service’s next big original series’, and will see Elba taking the role of Charlie. Described as a struggling DJ and “enternal bachelor”, his fortune changes as he is given one last stab at success when he reluctantly becomes a manny to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter.

Directed by Tristram Shapeero (I’m Alan Partridge, Community and GLOW) and Matt Lipsey (Little Britain, Sick Note), the series will consist of eight half-hour episodes.

Production is set to begin in the UK during May.

So, if you’re lucky, who knows? Maybe they’ll be filming some of his scenes at Forbidden Fruit in early June.
