An Irish version of Love Island is being talked about

Love Island Ireland

Like it or not, the country spent most of the summer either wrapped up in the World Cup, Love Island, or both.

Indeed, plenty of people have been struggling to fill the void in their lives since the show’s fourth season ended.

If you’ve been hoping for an Irish version of ITV’s hit reality show, your prayers could yet be answered.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Virgin Media’s Director of Programming Bill Malone said “It has been rumoured about an Irish Love Island and it has been discussed. I can say no more.”

Malone is likely to get a sense of just how popular such a show would be when confronted with the huge online response to his statement.

To be fair, there’s great potential for an Irish equivalent. You could set it on the Aran Islands and have all the contestants dressed appropriately warm the whole time — flirting over cups of tea and dancing at céilídhs. Tell us you wouldn’t watch that.

Sadly, the whole thing is very far from being confirmed just yet. Malone’s comments make it clear that the idea is still at the discussion stage, meaning that nothing is set in stone. Still, that might mean now is as good a time as any to get some early work done on your application.

But if you’re impatient… you can apply for the 2019 Love Island UK right here.
