J.J. Abrams has a new sci-fi show that’s about a “monstrous, oppressive force”

Paul Moore

Cloverfield fans are going to be very, very happy.

2018 is looking like it’s set to be the year of the monster. No, we’re not talking about a politician or the inevitable goalscorer that’s going to knock England out of the World Cup, but rather those beasts, ghouls and terrifying treats that are headed our way.

The Meg, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, A Quiet Place, Rampage and potentially two Cloverfield films are on the agenda, and speaking of Cloverfield, it looks like its producer, J.J Abrams is heading back to the world of TV.

As you may know, the director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mission Impossible III, and Star Trek made his name with Lost and Alias, but his new TV show sounds like a doozy.

Of course, Abrams already has a new TV project that’s being released in 2018 – he’s producing the Stephen King-based Castle Rock – but the Super 8 director is a very busy man.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s currently pitching a brand new sci-fi series to some major studios with HBO, Warner Brothers and Apple all interested.

As for the new show, the report states that: “sources say the Abrams drama is about a family — consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter — who all get into a terrible car crash.

After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up being transported to another land amid a world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world.”

Given his talent for sci-fi, destroying worlds and creating gigantic f**king monsters, it’s fair to say that this show has some serious potential.

As for Abrams’ next film, he’s attached to direct a tiny film called Star Wars: Episode IX.
