James Gunn addresses big GOTG3 plot hole
The writer/director of the three Guardians of the Galaxy movies has an answer for the issue.
Not every plot hole is of equal, uhm, holiness? Some we can forgive more than others - how did Lindsay Lohan get blamed for the years of gossip in the Burn Book in Mean Girls when she literally only started in the school a few weeks earlier?? - but some of them do stand out... especially once someone else points them out to you.
One such plot hole appears in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, and we'll admit it, we didn't clock this plot hole upon our own viewing, but now that is has been pointed out to us, we can't think about anything else.
Before we get to the plot hole in question, which will require a spoiler for the end of GOTG3, so consider this your warning, why not check out JOE.ie's chat with James Gunn right here:
Still here? Okay, on we go to spoilersville. Come the finale of the third Guardians movie, once the gang have saved all of the children and animals from the High Evolutionary's exploding ship and safely stowed them on to Knowhere, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) attempts to jump to safety himself, only for the distance to be far too far and he gets frozen in space - in much the same way Yondu (Michael Rooker) died while saving Quill in GOTG2 - only for Quill to then be saved by antagonist-turned-questionable-hero Adam Warlock (Will Poulter).
But if you've ever watched the first two GOTG movies, or Avengers: Infinity War, then you should already know that Quill comes equipped with a helmet and rocket boots that make flying around the emptiness of space a breeze.
Gunn took to social media to clarify the situation: "It’s in his desk drawer in Knowhere. He had to get out of there fast as you know! (And as for the next question people ask - the rockets that clip onto his boots are far inferior to the jet packs Rocket has made them so they’re not around at all anymore)."
So there you go. Plot hole filled in by... a guy in a bit of a hurry. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is in cinemas right now.
