Jason Blum has great news for fans of Get Out and Split

Black lesbians in rural America? Go on…

Producer Jason Blum is renowned for his horror movies and of late has been a part of movies such as Get Out, Split and The Purge. Speaking to The New York Times, Blum, who is the head of Blumhouse productions, revealed that one of the many new projects he has in the pipeline is a horror, directed by Dee Rees, about two black lesbians haunted by some unfamiliar force.

Rees is an American screenwriter and director best known for her feature films Pariah, Bessie and Mudbound. The two apparently met at the Sundance Institute while giving speeches and Rees’ movie pitch simply could not be refused.

According to Blum, she approached him at the event and said:

“You’ve got me and my wife, two black lesbians, and when we first moved in, we fought every day over all these little things: ‘Why is this over there? Did you move that?’ ”

“Maybe it was a ghost. Or maybe it was some other force — like us not wanting to be there or fitting in. Anyway, that’s my horror-movie pitch.”

Blum was instantly hooked by the idea and the pair are currently discussing plans for the movie. If you haven’t come across Rees’ work before, her Sundance flick, Mudbound, was recently bought by Netflix for the hefty sum of $12.5 million.

The film, set during World War II, is centered around a family, who up sticks to Mississippi and struggle with racism and the effects of the War.
