Jeff Goldblum is set to return and probably save the world again in Independence Day 2

“Forget the fat lady. You’re obsessed with the fat lady. Just get us out of here!”

There are certain films that instantly make JOE feel all alien gooey and nostalgic for our childhood and Independence Day is definitely one of them.

What’s not to love about a very real scenario that involves Will Smith punching aliens, Randy Quaid saving the world and strippers becoming best friends with the First Lady?

The film’s ending never sat right with us though, because do you genuinely believe that these aliens would just go away and not return? JOE reckons that they must be really pissed off because their entire race needs a new planet to live on and we just destroy some of their best fighters.

It seems like the world is about to get blown up again, but here’s hoping that the aliens now have a computer operating system on their spaceship that has some form of virus protection installed so the entire thing won’t happen again.

So who is going to save us this time around? The Fresh Prince won’t be returning for the new film – we presume he has more important business with Jazzy Jeff to attend to – but the even cooler and jazzier Jeff Goldblum will be returning.

In an interview with Time, the cult hero revealed that “I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me”. Goldblum noted that the plan was “to make another one pretty soon”.

Best. Person to fight aliens. Ever. Well, apart from Ripley and Zapp Brannigan obviously. Independence Day 2 is set for release on July 1st 2016 and we can’t wait to see what they plan on destroying next.

Here’s hoping that Goldblum somehow manages to make lightbulbs look sexy in the new film, he’s done it before after all.
