“I haven’t even told my husband or my mom if I survive or not.”
Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera were well aware of the big move franchise they were stepping into when they signed on for Scream VI. That included paying close attention to Scream canon and being super, super sensitive about revealing anything plot-related.
While Barrera did not even tell close family members the fate of her character in the horror movie, Ortega went a step further. The ‘Wednesday’ star, who is tipped to star in a Beetlejuice sequel, told JOE’s Rory Cashin:
“I was speaking to a friend and they asked me a question about the project, and they said, ‘Woah, woah, woah, you’re using ‘they’ ‘them’ pronouns when addressing Ghostface! You won’t even tell us any ideas – is it multiples, is it just one?’
“I thought that was funny as I didn’t even realise but I’m pretty good with secrets too, in terms of secrets. I don’t be the one [to give anything away].”

Scream directors on Scream sequence they loved shooting
Rory Cashin mentioned that there was one sequence that the directors had already ear-marked as being one they were very excited to shoot, and very excited for audiences to see. Tyler Gillett explained further:
“I think for us, one of the sequences on the page that we were just really thrilled to get on set and shoot was the bodega. There was something about it, and I think the ingredients about it are just so specific.

And we love a good sneak, we love the tension of a movie that really has a lot of loud moments. And there is this one little set-piece that gets so quiet that you can’t help but lean into the screen. And that, for us, there was something about it that felt really familiar, and the alchemy of that scene, I think we were just really excited to watch it come to life.”
Scream VI arrived in cinemas on Thursday, 9 March.
