JOE meets Gary Oldman and Matt Reeves, star and director of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Close encounters of the furred kind...

Eoghan Doherty

Seriously, we’re not monkeying around.

The superb Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes swings its way into cinemas this week and, ahead of its eagerly-anticipated release, Eoghan Doherty met up with old pal Gary Oldman and Matt Reeves to discuss all things Apes-related, including the unfortunate demise of the Irish nation as a result of Simian Flu, the dilemmas of eating poop-flavoured chocolate and, most importantly, what are the best monkey-inspired film puns.

It really is hard to beat Close Encounters Of The Furred Kind if you ask us.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes picks up the awesome ape action ten years after the end of the excellent Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011), joining genetically-evolved Caesar and his colony of loyal furry followers in their new home in the forests outside San Francisco.

Their new-found freedom, however, is soon under threat when a band of Simian Flu-surviving humans stumble across the secret monkey community. The two species reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of Gorilla warfare which will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

GIRAFFES!

Sorry, no. Not giraffes. It’d be apes or humans.

Speaking of humans, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes stars the aforementioned Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and the incredible Toby Kebbell (incredibebbell?) and we can assure you, this sequel is most definitely one of the must-see films of the year.

Enjoy…

The movie is set to hit Irish cinemas on July 17 so, to get you in the mood for some monkey movie madness, check out the terrific trailer below…
