JOE meets Jonah Hill to talk War Dogs, 23 Jump Street, Simpsons spin-offs and his love of Ireland

Paul Moore

He’s in flying form.

Over the last decade, very few actors can say that they’ve accumulated a body of work that’s as diverse and eclectic as Jonah Hill. With two Oscar nominations to his name, Hill has his choice of dramatic projects to choose from, but as he also demonstrated with comedies like Superbad, This is the End and the Jump Street films, he’s also an actor that’s capable of making you laugh.

Good news for audiences because Hill’s new film, War Dogs, plays to both of these strengths. Todd Phillips,  director of The Hangover and Old School, is behind the lens on this remarkable story of two young men, David Packouz (Miles Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Hill), who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan.

Hill’s performance as Efraim  – a charismatic, carefree but conniving arms dealer – sees him hone both his comedic and dramatic skills to perfection.

Paul Moore caught up with the star of War Dogs and it seems that he’s just itching to get back to Dublin after visiting the city very recently. He also told us about the character from The Simpsons that he would love to see get their own spin-off and why Joe Pesci’s performance in Goodfellas could have been even better with some fake tan!

Oh yeah, he also chatted about his plans for Jump Street 23 and that funny prank that Leonardo Di Caprio pulled on him a few weeks ago. Take a look.

We also got a chance to talk to the remarkably cool Todd Phillips.

War Dogs is released in Irish cinemas on 26 August. Here’s the trailer to get you in the mood, enjoy!
