John Cusack High Fidelity reboot

“The woman part seems good. The rest not so much.”

Last week brought the news that cult favourite High Fidelity is set for a small-screen reboot, with a twist.

In case you missed it, Disney’s new streaming service is looking to put together a fresh adaptation of Nick Hornby’s 1995 bestseller with a female lead role in place of Cusack’s sarcastic record store owner.

The new High Fidelity will apparently mark “a departure from the book and the movie while still capturing the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the original source materials.”

Often outspoken on Twitter, Cusack used his social media presence to address the inevitable fan concerns.

Asked (grosse) point blank what he thinks of the upcoming reboot, the actor was candid enough and noted that he would like to see Hornby involved in some fashion.

“The woman part seems good,” he began. “The rest not so much, but it’s Nick’s book [and I] hope at least he’s involved. If he’s not, it’ll suck.”

Previously, Cusack poured cold water on the project, noting that he expects the new creative team to “fuck it up.”

So, clearly something of a sore point for the actor, who still hits up Q&A screenings of the movie from time to time.

Still, good to see him growing into the role of a character who would obviously prefer the early stuff over more modern corporate-friendly material…
