26th May 2022

This might be 2022’s best weekend for new movies and shows

Rory Cashin

The year’s best blockbuster (so far) and two of the biggest shows EVER are all released this weekend.

Usually we’re lucky to get one great big movie or one must-watch show each week, but this week… wow. We’re being properly spoiled this week, gang!

To kick things off, here are the movies which will all be available on the big screens around Ireland from Friday, 27 May.

TOP GUN MAVERICK

36 years after the original, Tom Cruise returns with his need for speed seemingly not diminished in any way. He’s been chosen to train some of the best new recruits for some highly dangerous missions. The action looks incredible, and the behind-the-scenes look below shows off how real some of it actually was for the cast and crew.

Check out our full review here, and our chats with Tom Cruise’s co-stars Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Greg ‘Tarzan’ Davis, Jay Ellis and Danny Ramirez right here:

THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE

After 12 seasons (and counting) of the much-loved show so far, Bob and his family are finally hitting the big screen. When a sinkhole suddenly opens up at their burger restaurant’s entrance, they must try to save their business and also get to the bottom of a mystery that could be the answer to all of their problems.

Check out our interview with some of the voice cast, including H. Jon Benjamin (Bob), John Roberts (Linda) and Larry Murphy (Teddy).

And now on to the stuff you can watch at home this week, starting with…

THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT SEASON TWO

We absolutely loved the first season of The Flight Attendant, so we’re delighted to be spending more time with Cassie Bowden (Kaley Cuoco), who is trying to successfully juggle her careers as a flight attendant and an undercover CIA asset. Of course, things all go awry when she is the witness to a murder with huge international implications.

All episodes available with your NOW Entertainment Membership from Thursday, 26 May.

OBI-WAN KENOBI

Set after the events of Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope, this season will fill in the blanks of what Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) got up to before a certain Skywalker began to put balance back into the Force.

The first two episodes will arrive on Disney+ on Friday, 27 May, and then the rest of the season will drop each Wednesday after that. Check out our exclusive Irish interview with the man himself right here:

STRANGER THINGS: SEASON FOUR VOLUME ONE

Darkness returns to Hawkins just in time for spring break, triggering fresh terror, disturbing memories – and the threat of war. The first seven episodes (which will each be AT LEAST an hour long) will land on Netflix on Friday, 27 May, ahead of the second half of this season arriving in July.
