It comes from the Oscar-nominated director of Logan, no less!

If you were to make an Oscar checklist, what would we need to put on it?

True life story? Check, as Le Mans ’66 tells the story American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles as they battle corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

High caliber actors involved? Double check, with Oscar-winner Matt Damon as Shelby, and Oscar-winner Christian Bale as Miles, and they’re surrounded by Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), Jon Bernthal (The Accountant), and Ireland’s own Catriona Balfe (Outlander).

Big names behind the camera? Checks galore, with Oscar-nominated director James Mangold (Logan, Walk The Line) and produced by Michael Mann (Heat, The Last Of The Mohicans).

All it needs now is to do the film festival circuit and get some great reviews and things will start revving up (a little racing humour there) towards some big awards attention.

Well, it is already doing exactly that, getting some great reviews coming out of the Toronto International Film Festival (where it goes by the catchier title of Ford V Ferrari), with some talk that both Damon and Bale could be up for acting nods.

We can see for ourselves once Le Mans ’66 pulls into Irish cinemas on Friday 15 November, but you can check out the brand new trailer for it right here:
