Leonardo DiCaprio to be lined up to play The Joker for Martin Scorsese and Warner Bros.

Okay, there's a bit to break down, so stick with us here... Alongside the current DCU superhero movies series - Man Of Steel, Wonder Woman, Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League - and the rest of the upcoming slate that will be tied in to those movies, Warner Brothers and DC Comics are looking to expand the movies beyond that collection. While there is already talk of DC gearing up to make a Joker and Harley movie starring Jared Leto and Margot Robbie, there is now another Joker movie in the pipeline, this one dealing with the origin of the infamous villain. And this is where it starts to get even more interesting. According to Deadline, this new Joker movie will be written and produced by Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School), and is in line to be produced by none other than Martin Scorsese. Now, as is being reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers are hoping this Scorsese connection will be enough to entice none other than Leonardo DiCaprio in for the title role. This take on the character is being described as a hard-boiled crime-thriller set in 1980's Gotham City (which pretty much describes Scorsese's early career, but with New York), and sources told THR that "Warners will make an ambitious attempt to use Scorsese to bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the world of comic-book movies. Certainly, Scorsese’s involvement in The Joker film [could] elevate and diversify the studio’s contributions to the genre, creating the potential to make awards-worthy films such as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy." DiCaprio could follow in the footsteps of his The Departed co-star Jack Nicholson for the part, and he has had a lucrative past with Warner Bros. previously, such as with Inception ($825.5 million) and The Great Gatsby ($351 million). Meanwhile, Leo - who hasn't been in a film since The Revenant back in 2015 - won't hit the big screen again until he reunites with Scorsese for Killers Of The Flower Moon, which tells the story of a real-life murder mystery that eventually caused the creation of the FBI, but even that project isn't anticipated to arrive until late 2018.
